Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture
Ford contributed $1 million to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture which opened in September 2016. The museum pays tribute to the accomplishments and legacy of African Americans in this country.
“The Ford Motor Company Fund made its first gift to Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in 2011, prior to the museum’s groundbreaking. This early support helped us create a museum that would tell America’s story in a bold, new way – through the lens of the African American experience, in all its complexity, joy and sorrow. Since its opening in September of 2016, the museum has welcomed more than four million visitors. They have come from every state in the country and from around the world. Through 12 inaugural exhibitions and hundreds of public programs, the museum is shedding light on topics ranging from the international slave trade to the civil rights era to contemporary social justice movements. The Ford Motor Company Fund’s investment in this museum has been invaluable to our efforts and we are grateful for this generous support.„
